Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to offer a series of short courses under the Culture & Wellbeing strand starting in February/March 2025 aimed at industry professionals working in the screen and wider arts sector.

Bystander Awareness for Screen Industry Professionals

Dates: Thursday, 20th & Friday 21st March 2025
10am – noon

The Bystander Awareness for Film & TV Professionals course is designed to empower industry practitioners with the skills to identify and intervene in situations of discrimination and bias within the workplace. Participants will learn the importance of being active bystanders, fostering a culture of accountability, and creating safe and inclusive production environments.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Develop skills to recognise and actively address inappropriate behavior in the film and TV workplace.
  • Implement effective practices for intervening in situations of bias and discrimination, fostering positive workplace dynamics.
  • Understand the crucial role of bystanders in contributing to a safe, inclusive environment by promoting open communication and mutual respect.
  • Learn how to hold individuals accountable for inappropriate behavior and actively participate in fostering a collective culture of accountability within the industry.

This course is aimed at screen industry professionals working in live action/unscripted film & TV, animation, VFX or games interested in active bystander training in a production environment.

Allyship in the Film & TV Industry

The Allyship in the Film & TV Industry course is designed to train industry professionals to become effective allies. Participants will explore concepts such as recognising privilege, active listening, and taking tangible actions to support underrepresented colleagues, fostering a culture of inclusivity and solidarity within the industry.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Actively champion inclusivity within the industry, recognising and addressing personal and systemic privileges.
  • Develop active listening skills to amplify the voices and experiences of underrepresented colleagues.
  • Implement tangible actions to actively support underrepresented colleagues and foster a more inclusive workplace culture.
  • Navigate challenging conversations about privilege and allyship, contributing to open and constructive dialogue.
  • Sustain Long-Term Commitment: Develop strategies for sustaining long-term allyship efforts, fostering continuous education and advocacy within the industry.

This course is aimed at funders, and individuals who work across schemes, projects, and individuals or organisations interested in supporting diverse projects in the screen sector.

Developing an EDI Policy

Date: Tuesday, 25th February 2025

The Developing an EDI Policy course will help you set clear expectations, mitigate risk, and ensure compliance by establishing an effective EDI policy which aligns with the objectives of your organisation. Participants will gain an understanding of the key components to consider and include in EDI policy development and be able to practice drafting policies which are relevant and sustainable, based on personally established goals and key performance indicators that align with your organisation.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the case for EDI policy development from a business perspective.
  • Identify the key components of an effective EDI policy and factors which influence their development.
  • Practice drafting policies which mitigate systemic barriers and promote inclusion in the workplace.
  • Draft and review a strategic EDI policy for their company including goals and KPIs.
  • Determine governance structure including steps for ongoing oversight and review of policies.

This workshop is aimed towards anyone working in the arts sector who wishes to put in place a clear policy on equality, diversity and inclusion to ensure employees know the benefits and responsibilities of working together within an organisation.
