Emerging technologies are reshaping how creative content and experiences are produced and consumed globally.  Real time technologies such as virtual production, motion capture and the acceleration of immersive technologies in creative and enterprise sectors, are opening up creative and technical opportunities that we have never seen before. 

In partnership with Animation Skillnet, Screen Skillnet and Immersive Technologies Skillnet and supported by Screen Ireland and Animation Ireland, Emerging Futures: Creative Content, Technology & Innovation in the Screen Sector, will explore these new opportunities in a unique one-day programme at Furthr Festival 2022 on Friday, 21st October 2022 and examine what this means for the Irish screen and immersive industries.

The event will see the launch of the new Feasibility Study for SIIL - a National Innovation Lab for the Irish Screen Industries, share the findings from recent The Irish Immersive Economy and the Digital Transformation in the Screen Industries study.  All three reports have been commissioned by Animation Skillnet, Screen Skillnet and Immersive Technologies Skillnet.

Focus: In 2022, these three new reports, published new data, insights, and recommendations on how to take up the global opportunities in XR and new real time technologies. This session will present key findings and recommendations from each report.

Focus: State of the Nation in Ireland and Future Growth

Following on from the Session 2 report findings, which point to the wealth of talent and innovation already happening across Ireland, this session highlights the barriers to adoption and speaks to a future Irish market which could see significant growth and potential in screen and tech
innovation. This panel will look at how we collectively build a thriving national innovation ecosystem and will point to the new opportunities coming on stream today to future proof tomorrow including the Screen Innovation Fund 2021 and 2022 and also:

  • Dependence on training and skills development to ensure a workforce that's fit for purpose.
  • The State of the Nation in XR in Ireland today, examples of innovation on screen and what can we learn from others internationally.
  • Future proofing innovation: opportunities to accelerate the Irish Screen & XR industry today.
  • Where the opportunities are for businesses and creatives.
  • Screen Ireland Launch of 2022 Screen Innovation Fund announcement.

Focus: What opportunities exist for Ireland's creative content industries, to bring the skill and art of creating engaging and immersive stories experiences to industries outside of the creative sector? From the pressure in the tourism sector to maintain and attract visitors, the opportunities in health and wellbeing to workforce training and workplaces of the future, the creative industries are in a prime position to utilise what they do best to generate new business and enter new markets. Join this panel session to find out more about the new experiences being created by companies today that are creating new models of business growth.

Virtual Production, real time content creation and using games engine pipelines are affording new ways to think about how we create stories. In game engine filmmaking, LED Walls, in camera VFX bring an entirely new skill set to the film making toolbox. How accessible is it? Is it possible to achieve and what does it mean for businesses, the Irish screen workforce and Ireland's global competitive edge?

Focus: Irish creative businesses are using tech innovations to drive greater immersive content experiences for audiences and compete on an international stage. This panel will explore the new and emerging forms of content taking centre stage globally, the innovative technologies that underpin them and share the opportunities that are opened by experimenting with new tools and techniques to engage new audiences and create new forms of content creation in the screen sector.
