Biography
Alan Maher is an Emmy Award-winning Producer and Co-Managing Director of COWTOWN PICTURES.
Recent work includes Antonia Campbell-Hughes’ HIGH END/DIAMOND SHITTER starring Raffey Cassidy, Andrea Riseborough, Allesandro Nivola and Guy Pearse. Alan produced for Sleeper Films with Rory Gilmartin and Lee Magiday.
Alan is Executive Producer on Ita Fitzgerald’s WEST THE ROAD, starring Imelda Staunton, Charlie Murphy, Philippa Dunne, Charlene McKenna and Genevieve O’Reilly. The film is a Cowtown Pictures/Stigma Films co-production.
Alan produced EVERYBODY DIGS BILL EVANS, written by Mark O’Halloran and directed by Grant Gee starring Anders Danielsen Lie, Barry Ward, Laurie Metcalf and Bill Pullman. Alan Maher produces for Cowtown Pictures and Janine Marmot produces for Hot Property Films. EVERYBODY DIGS BILL EVANS won the SIlver Bear for Best Director (Grant Gee) at the 2026 Berlinale.
Alan produced Andrew Legge’s LOLA, starring Emma Appleton and Stefanie Martini, with original score and songs by Neil Hannon. LOLA won the 2023 Méliès d’or for the Best European Fantastic Film of the year.
Other films include: Prasanna Puwanarajah’s BALLYWALTER; Emer Reynold’s PHIL LYNOTT: SONGS FOR WHILE I’M AWAY; Aideen Kane, Lucy Kennedy and Maeve O’Boyle’s THE 8TH; and RIALTO written by Mark O’Halloran, directed by Peter Mackie Burns, and starring Tom Vaughan-Lawlor and Tom Glynn-Carney.
Prior to setting up Cowtown Pictures, Alan produced Pat Collins’ SONG OF GRANITE, which was Ireland's Official Entry for the Foreign Language category of the 2018 Academy Awards.
Other past projects include: LOSING ALASKA; BEING AP; and FOREVER PURE, which won the 2018 Emmy for Outstanding Politics and Government Documentary.
Alan was a Senior Executive at Screen Ireland for six years and was responsible for more than fifty feature films and documentaries. Prior to joining Screen Ireland, Alan was Head of Development at Element Pictures. Alan is a member of the ACE Producer’s Network.
