Eva Wyse - Marie and Destiny

When a restrained nun begins a Chaplaincy placement at a Dublin secondary school, a summer gardening project with a soon to be retired, recently ‘out’ teacher prompts romance to blossom where it's least expected.

Biography

Eva Wyse is a writer/director from Dublin. In 2017 she graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a BA in Film and Drama Studies which included an exchange semester at Columbia University. Subsequently she spent time working in New York at Mabou Mines, an avant garde theatre company, where she cultivated her passion for experimental storytelling and also worked as a videographer for their Resident Artist Program. More recently she completed research for Mabou’s Creative Director doing a survey of Beckett’s short prose with adaptation suggestions. After gaining an MA in Screenwriting from Screen Academy Scotland (2018), she was hired as the in-house Production Assistant at Parallel Films, working across their Film and TV slates and providing extensive production support. Following this role she decided to pursue freelance opportunities in the industry, she has directed several music videos, was a finalist in the nationwide Youth Music Video Competition 2019 and has worked with both emerging and prolific Irish actors including the esteemed Owen Roe.

In late 2019 she was selected to participate in the X-Pollinator Scheme run by BAI and Screen Ireland- an innovative initiative created to boost women's careers in the Irish film industry. Following this in May 2020 she was selected for Screen Ireland’s Spotlight Development Scheme for emerging writing talent. She was recently awarded development funding and equipment support to direct a short film by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and the National Film School at IADT. At present she is writing her next short ‘Wet Dream’, a magical realist piece that interrogates issues around spirituality and dogmatism, as well as developing other longer-form film and TV ideas.

As a writer she is drawn to telling confronting stories that shed a light or evoke empathy in unexpected or overlooked places, always in the hopes of uncovering unexpected subtleties and commonalities.
