Fiona Shiel - Quare

Fiona Shiel - Quare

A queer romance centring around two artists, Delaney and Zofia, and the bohemian community of 70s Galway surrounding them.

Biography

Fiona Shiel is a 25 year old producer’s and director’s assistant living in North London. She left Galway at 19 to attend Met Film School in Ealing Studios, where her BA focused mainly on writing and producing. Since then she has worked as an assistant for Alison Owen, Debra Hayward, Jessica Swale and currently Darin McLeod on a new streaming service eight part drama. As much as she loves the smell of coffee, she hopes to transition into writing as a means of supporting herself full time as soon as possible. Her writing explores themes of queerness, gender identity, social ostracisation and its behavioural and psychological repercussions and the tandem of personal and artistic development. She likes to write playfully across a range of tones including romance and comedy, and is especially interested in portraying a sense of abandonment coloured by surreality.

Her most treasured scenes in film: Ratso stealing food from an acid-soaked 60's party (Midnight Cowboy, 1969); the appearance of a miniature Casio calculator at the dinner table in 16th century Rome (Caravaggio, 1986); Yorkie showing off his paper uniform to Jojo as the Allies are closing in (Jojo Rabbit, 2019).
