Course Profile

This proposed course is a crucial initiative designed to equip screen industry writers with the knowledge and skills to confidently and sensitively write intimate scenes incorporating best practice. It will be tutored by Róisín O'Donovan, Intimacy Coordinator on projects such as Foundation, The Serpent Queen, Chevalier, Vikings: Valhalla and The Wonder.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Confidently write intimate scenes appropriate for particular projects
  • Consider the role of intimacy in story and character development.
  • Deepen understanding of the processes and kit employed.
  • Understand the production aspects including intimate scenes in scripts, the costs and time commitment from the production.
  • Understand the potential impact on cast and crew when approaching intimate scenes of a violent or non-violent nature.
  • Understand the connection between the age of actors and age-appropriate intimate scenes.
  • Employ appropriate language in scripts.

In the afternoon, Róisín will also be leading a course on Best Practice: Sensitive Content in the Writers Room on Tuesday, 6th August 2024.
