Course Profile

This course will take place online over two days, Tuesday, 25th and Wednesday, 26th July, from 10:00 to 16:00 each day.

This online course in Casting for Factual Television in association with NFTS Scotland will provide participants with the opportunity to understand casting for factual production including roles and responsibilities of the casting team. Participants will go through the process of casting for a factual show step by step, with examples of best practice at each stage. 

Areas covered include:

  • Introduction to the casting team 
  • The different types of casting within factual 
  • How to set up a casting plan 
  • Things to think about in the early stages 
  • How to find your cast – ways to reach out using social media, advertising and applications 
  • How to pitch your cast to the producers and commissioners 
  • Creating a short pitch on your smartphone 
  • Looking after your cast during production 
  • How to get a job into casting – where to look for jobs and how to tailor your CV 
  • Inclusive casting - how to reach diverse and underrepresented groups to make your content more interesting;

*Please note you will need a smartphone with a camera to participate in one exercise.

This online casting course is aimed at those working in factual TV who wish to gain knowledge and skills in casting factual TV.
