Course Profile

Screen Ireland is delighted to partner with Neil Leyden, Head of RTE.ie to bring you an IP Development Masterclass for Producers taking place in-person on Thursday, 29th February and Friday, 1st March 2024, from 9.30am to 1.30pm each day. The masterclass will focus on the European Media Outlook Report and provide context for producers around key aspects of IP development.

We are excited to welcome Emilie Blézat, CEO, producer and IP creator and David Dusa, writer/director, Dark Riveria, a Stockholm based IP creation company, bringing innovative content across multiple platforms for production, distribution and licencing.

Emilie and David will share their experiences creating IP and the benefits and challenges working 360° content.

David will also lead a separate workshop on story for writers. Learn more about the IP Development Workshop for Writers

The sessions will be led by a panel of industry experts developing and producing IP for multiple platforms.

At the heart of captivating content lies compelling storytelling. However, the skilful monetization of this content can yield Intellectual Property (IP), a valuable asset that generates continuous revenue. This steady stream of income empowers producers to expand their reach, introduce content to a broader audience, and fuel the creation of new stories. Notable European success stories include Doctor Who, The Witcher, Peppa Pig and Paddington.

As the European Media Outlook Report from the EU Commission emphasizes, the stakes for European media industries are heightened in the face of global competition. This course delves into the examination of recent global trends in IP monetization, encompassing film, television series, animation, publishing, video games, and virtual worlds. The course explores the expanding value of IP retention and exploitation, both as catalysts for creative growth and for expanding reach to broader, younger audiences.

Areas covered will include:

  • The changing media landscape (the fact that all media is transmedia now, the increasing dominance of technology platforms, rise of games, democratisation of access, importance of the writer etc.)
  • Challenge of the legacy (i.e. funding, contracts, distribution, etc.)
  • Explore in depth their new approach and the potential opportunities.
  • Explore the challenges of their approach.

Participant Profile

The masterclass is suitable for producers, independent content creators, creative executives managing teams that are developing IP; and content creators who wish to structure their ideas for presentation.
