Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland as part of S481 Skills Development Screen Talks in association with production company Merman, is delighted to present an industry talk with Dearbhla Walsh and Catherine Magee in conversation with producer Julianne Forde, taking place at the Irish Film Institute on Tuesday, 3rd September 2024 from 16:00 to 18:00.

Dearbhla and Catherine worked as director and producer respectively on the upcoming second season of Sharon Horgan's award-winning comedy drama Bad Sisters, which will premiere on Apple TV+ later this year.

Dearbhla Walsh is an Emmy, BAFTA and IFTA award-winning director. Her award-winning productions and nominations include Bad Sisters for Apple TV+, Fargo for FX, The Handmaid’s Tale for Hulu, Little Dorrit for BBC1 and Shameless for Channel 4. Her most recent directing credits include Japanese dramedy Sunny starring Rashida Jones and Hidetoshi Nishijima for Apple TV+, comedy pilot Shining Vale starring Courtney Cox and Greg Kinnear for Starz, Tales from the Loop for Amazon and Marvel’s The Punisher. She directed Richard Curtis’s film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Esio Trot starring Dame Judi Dench and Dustin Hoffman. She is currently in pre-production for Margo’s Got Money Trouble adapted by David E. Kelley for Apple TV+, starring Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer and Nicole Kidman. Dearbhla hails from Tubbercurry, Co.Sligo - the home of Normal People

Catherine Magee is an experienced TV drama and film producer based in Ireland. She has produced several of Lenny Abrahamson’s television projects, including Normal People, Conversations With Friends and Prosperity. With RTÉ, she has produced multiple historical dramas, including Rebellion and Resistance, Charlie starring Aiden Gillen as Charles Haughey and When Harvey Met Bob starring Domhnall Gleeson as Bob Geldof. Most recently, she was a producer on the upcoming Magdalene Laundries film Small Things Like These featuring Cillian Murphy and Emily Watson, which premiered at the 2024 Berlin International Film Festival.

Dearbhla and Catherine will be in conversation with Julianne Forde. Julianne is a Co-Founder and Managing Director of Dublin based production company Tailored Films. She has been a lead producer on multiple international feature films and TV drama series, and has also worked as a cinematographer on Tailored's TV projects. Producing credits include The Lodgers, The Winter Lake, Let The Wrong One In and RTÉ's teen drama Louise Lives Large. Most recently, she produced The Apprentice, Ali Abbasi's historical drama about Donald Trump starring Sebastian Stan and Jeremy Strong, which premiered in Competition at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. She is also a producer on the upcoming feature Bring Them Down starring Barry Keoghan and Christopher Abbott, which will premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
