Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland is delighted to present the Audience Development & Film Marketing Forum taking place on Tuesday, 18th June 2024 at the Light House Cinema, Dublin. This industry event aims to convene Irish screen industry professionals working across exhibition, distribution, production, festivals and more, to discuss and explore the latest trends and strategies for developing and attracting audiences for the cinema.

Film marketing agency Alphapanda will also lead a dedicated workshop for producers and film professionals the following day on Wednesday, 19th June 2024.

10:45-11:30 Keynote Speaker: Christian Bräuer (Yorck Cinema Group)

The Forum will open with a keynote from guest speaker Christian Bräuer, Managing Director of Yorck Cinema Group based in Berlin. Christian is a member of the board of directors of Europa Cinemas, the International Confederation of Arthouse Cinemas (CICAE) and the German Arthouse Cinema Association. With over 20 years of experience, Christian will speak about his experience of managing a portfolio of 14 unique arthouse cinemas, giving insight into his knowledge, expertise and passion for delivering high-quality cinematic experiences for his audiences.

11:30-13:00 Discussion Panel: Innovative Strategies for Developing New Film Audiences

Following from Christian’s keynote, an expert panel of leading European film exhibitors and marketing professionals will discuss the current exhibition landscape, sharing unique perspectives about the challenges and opportunities within their own respective territories. Guest panellists' include:

  • Kim Foss, CEO/Managing Director of Grand Teatret and Camera Film
  • Sara Frain, Director of Film Marketing at Picturehouse Cinemas
  • Gillian Cooper, Head of Theatrical at Wildcard
  • Alice Black, Head of Cinema at Light House Group

  • What audience development programmes are working and how is long-term audience development evolving?

  • What should producers be doing better at production stage – how important are the marketing assets created on set?

13:45-15:15 Alphapanda Talk: Marketing Trends for Exhibitors

In the afternoon, Alphapanda will deliver a workshop session for exhibitors. Since 2011, they have developed expertise in film marketing and social media for a wide variety of films and projects covering strategy, campaign management, art direction, copywriting, community management, research, design, video editing, ads management and quantitative analysis. Notable projects include An Cailín Ciúin (Berlinale ’22 & Oscars ’23), Corpus Christi (Venice ’19), God’s Own Country (Sundance ’17), Touch Me Not (Berlinale Golden Bear ’17) as well as documentaries Pianoforte (CPH:DOX ’23) and Flee (Sundance ’21). This workshop will examine the evolution of social media platforms, trends in recent years, and how this has impacted how films are promoted online. Through concrete examples, recent case studies and an analysis of the latest trends, this session will explore how digital marketing can be used to enhance online visibility and audience engagement for cinema exhibitors.

Digital Film Marketing Workshop with Alphapanda (For Producers & Film Professionals)

Alphapanda will lead a day-long workshop aimed at producers and industry professionals interested in developing their marketing skills and in getting up-to-date with the latest digital marketing trends. Through presentations, case studies, group brainstorms and individual consultations, the session is structured to give a very practical and hands-on experience to all participants. The workshop will include the screening of a recent/upcoming feature film that will be used throughout as the main case study. This in-depth workshop session will cover marketing strategy (positioning, identification of targets, promotional material), digital platforms and social media.
