Ferdia MacAnna

Ferdia MacAnna is a writer and filmmaker and lecturer. He lectures in Creative Writing, Writing for Screen and Filmmaking at The American College, Dublin, and DCU as well as at various colleges and institutions. He facilitates courses in Creative Writing and Screenwriting. He runs his own Creative Writing Academy, MacAnna Academy.

He was a senior television producer/director for RTE, BBC and TG4.

In 2015, his first feature film as a director, All About Eva, an old school revenge thriller set in the horse-racing community in Kildare, received its world premiere at the Dublin International Film Festival.


In 2020, he completed his new feature film, DannyBoy which received its world premiere online on March 1st, 2020. DannyBoy debuted ion RTE in 2022. Trailer here:
 

 

His novel, The Last of the High Kings was made into a Hollywood movie in 1996. He has worked extensively as a screenwriter, scriptwriter and editor and well as a director and producer in TV drama, talk shows, entertainment and music. He has written three novels, a memoir and several screenplays. He has also been lead singer and songwriter with Rocky de Valera and the Rhythm Kings.
