Screen Ireland Short Films

Screen Ireland has a long tradition of showcasing new and emerging Irish film talent to audiences around the world. This journey to the international stage can very often begin with the making of a short film. Screen Ireland is proud to place importance and significant investment in short film production through these established short film schemes:

Screen Ireland short films begin their festival and international life following their world premiere at Galway Film Fleadh or Cork Film Festival. They are submitted and promoted to an approved list of major international festivals on an annual basis, with a priority being given to Oscar qualifying film festivals. Short films are highlighted at all of the major international festivals and film markets at which Screen Ireland hosts a stand, thereby creating many platforms for Irish writers, directors and producers to promote themselves internationally and create important opportunities to further their careers.

Irish short films have been incredibly successful on the world stage, having achieved two Academy Award® wins and ten Academy Award nominations over the last 20 years. A-list festivals have also continually embraced Irish short films. From Toronto to Sundance to Tribeca, short films from Ireland have deeply impressed judges and audiences alike.
